Synopsis

Bob Dylan's spiritual awakening through the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church led him to record three Gospel albums, including the Grammy-winning "Gotta Serve Somebody." This shift to evangelical preaching, however, alienated his fanbase and drew criticism. In his first interview about the experience, Dylan's Bible class teacher, Pastor Bill Dwyer, recounts Dylan's transformation. Legendary producer Jerry Wexler, background singer Regina McCrary, keyboardist Spooner Oldham, songwriter Al Kasha, rock reporter Joel Selvin, AJ Weberman, and others share their perspectives on Dylan's Gospel Years. Director Joel Gilbert chronicles this pivotal period in Dylan’s life and music using intimate portraits, rare photos, concert footage, and TV appearances from 1975-1981, featuring locations like Rundown Studios, Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, the Vineyard Church, and the Fox Warfield Theatre.
