"The J. Street Project 2002–5" is a 67-minute film presenting a series of static shots of German street signs containing the word "Jude." The artist discovered 303 such signs across Germany, on streets, lanes, roads, avenues, and alleys. The film explores the contrast between these ordinary signs and the historical memories they evoke of genocide. Accompanied by recordings of traffic noise, church bells, and other ambient sounds, the project maintains a consistent, factual approach. Yet, the collection of signs reveals a deeper connection to Jewish history, spanning millennia, not just modern times. The film highlights the tension between past and present, emphasizing feelings of absence and loss. The place names themselves become memorials to erasure.
