Synopsis

In Stanislaw Lem's novel *Solaris*, astronaut Chris Kelvin encounters a woman who appears to be a perfect replica of his deceased wife. Andrei Tarkovsky previously adapted this story into the film *Solaris*. However, according to Deimantas Narkevičius, Tarkovsky did not explore the impact of electronic media on relationships and human memory as deeply as Lem. This video features Donatas Banionis, who reprises his role as Kelvin forty years after Tarkovsky's film. *Revisiting Solaris* is based on the final chapter of Lem’s book, omitted from Tarkovsky’s adaptation. Narkevičius uses new footage combined with photographs from 1905 by Lithuanian painter and composer Mykolojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis to depict the world of Solaris and its haunting echoes of the past.
