Synopsis

Naoki Prize-winning author Shinichi Tsuda is trying to publish his latest story. It centers on Tsuyama, a driver for a call girl business in Toyama Prefecture, who discovers a suspicious counterfeit bill and becomes the target of underworld boss Kurata. Is the story based on real events? Tsuda’s editor, Nahomi Torikai, investigates, trying to determine if the work is simply fiction inspired by real experiences. Her investigation leads her to a missing family, a vanished post office worker, a large sum of illicit money, the meaning of a local symbol, and the night Tsuyama encountered the counterfeit bill. The investigation uncovers a series of startling truths connected to Tsuda’s story. Why did the counterfeit money end up with him? What truth was Tsuda trying to convey with the story’s conclusion?
