Synopsis

In February 1945, Primo Levi and other Auschwitz survivors began their journey home, a trip lasting over eight months. Sixty years later, a film crew follows in Levi's footsteps. Using his own words from "The Truce" (1963), the film recounts his experiences, depicting Poland’s devastated factories after the war, rising nationalism in Ukraine, Soviet Communism in Belarus, the ghost town of Prypiat (Chernobyl), poverty and emigration in Moldova, Italian factories in Romania, and onward through Hungary and Slovakia to Munich, where Levi's anger went unheard. Finally, he returns to Turin. An elderly Mario Rigoni Stern reflects on his friend. Despite the passage of time, some wounds of the war remain unresolved.
