Synopsis

This film tells the story of Lin Hai-yin, seen through the eyes of her daughter Julie Chang. It examines her life, her work as an editor, and her fight against censorship, all while exploring her connection to both Taiwan and mainland China. Lin Hai-yin's inclusive novels are cherished by readers on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. A supportive friend to writers and a devoted mother, she fostered Taiwanese literature after the war. As editor of the United Daily News, she championed writers like Lin Hwai-min and established Belles-Lettres Publishing House. Her home was a gathering place for literary figures, and she is fondly remembered as “Ms. Lin Hai-yin.” Her novel *Memories of Peking: South Side Stories* was published in 1960.
