Due to her mixed heritage, Anne's father is exiled by his family. He later establishes his own plantation, but dies in an accident when Anne is young. At age ten, Anne finds herself in a turbulent Jogja. Her school closes, and her mother's company is transferred to local control. The plantation is seized by Satrio's father, a friend of Anne's. This event tragically leads to her mother's death, prompting Anne to relocate to Solo and start a successful batik business. Satrio secretly supports her by purchasing her batik, harboring unrequited feelings for Anne. However, he is betrothed to a princess. Anne discovers Satrio's assistance, but must also conceal her own illness – she has lung cancer. She chooses to give him a handmade batik piece as a wedding gift.
