Charlotte works at a record store and finds herself bothered by a conversation with a Charlie Parker enthusiast. Suddenly, her life feels bland and pointless, and her relationships with her boyfriend and family seem shallow. She meets musician Leonard Blau in a subway car wash at night and falls in love with him. Leonard is unlike anyone she's ever met – full of secrets and unconventional ideas. An outsider who resists conformity, he often offends people and struggles with misunderstanding. He’s increasingly troubled by unsettling fears he can’t explain.
