Synopsis

In the future, Joseph visits a bookshop looking for an Italian writer. While searching the database for the name "Firenze," he tells the story of a woman he met thirty years prior. Lisbon, 2007: Joseph is a troubled American seminarian and member of Opus Dei, in Portugal to help organize an exhibition for the Franciscan Order in Lisbon's Cathedral. The exhibition features a legendary mirror, "The Mirror of St. Francis of Assisi," rumored to have shown St. Francis the next day. At the train station on his departure, Joseph meets Giulia, a captivating and unconventional Italian writer, and they instantly connect. Giulia explains she came to Lisbon searching for a mysterious Portuguese singer her father had an affair with before leaving to fight in Portugal's colonial war.
