Synopsis

Twelve years ago, Anya and Zhenya had a daughter, Nadya. Their young lives quickly became difficult. Zhenya's imprisonment led Anya and Nadya to live with his family. Over the past twelve years, Anya has made significant changes for herself and Nadya, often involving Zhenya. Zhenya's first jail sentence, for assaulting Anya, was short. His second, for rape, resulted in a four-year sentence. For most of those twelve years, Anya worked alongside Zhenya’s mother in their shoe repair shop. Zhenya’s father, a retired police officer, visited the shop, caring for Nadya but also developing a relationship with Anya. After Zhenya’s father, Sasha, assaults Anya and is imprisoned, Anya finally leaves Zhenya's family.
