Synopsis

Inspector Totsugawa travels to Tsuruoka, Yamagata, for the wedding of Inspector Mukai's son, his former colleague. While sightseeing at Mt. Haguro after the ceremony, he encounters a young woman named Yuka Shiraishi sketching the scenery. She says she's there to draw the Dewa Sanzan. She gives him a drawing of him signing the five-story pagoda with her initial, a 'Y', as a gift. The following morning, the body of a stabbed young woman is found in a forest near Tsuruoka. Totsugawa learns a sketchbook signed with a 'Y' was discovered at the scene and goes to investigate with Mukai. However, the body is not the woman Totsugawa met, and while no identifying items are found on the victim, the sketchbook is confirmed to be the same one Yuka had.
