The rivalry between the Toyotomi and Tokugawa clans escalates. Kasumi and her ninja comrades on the Tokugawa side face a dangerous new threat: Nobuyuki, Yukimura Sanada's brother, who is determined to kill him. Leading a formidable team – including Jako, a ninja who uses scent to control others; Mukage, a master of swift escape; and Bunzo, a fierce fighter with only a thread and fishing pole – these Kouga ninjas launch relentless attacks on the Sanadas. Meanwhile, Yukimura, Mufu, and Kasumi seek refuge with the Kosuges, led by Takayuki Toyotomi, whose brother Shinzo is aligned with the Tokugawas and torn by loyalty. Kasumi and Shizu, a Kosuge maid, develop feelings for each other, but Shizu is attacked by Jako's ninjas. Kasumi battles them fiercely, uncovering a shocking secret about Shizu in the process. The conflict intensifies.
