Synopsis

In 1955, Tobias Schneebaum ventured into the Peruvian Amazon alone, with only the instruction to stay on the river's right bank. A year later, he reappeared naked, painted with tribal markings, and claiming to have become a cannibal. This film, based on Schneebaum’s 1969 memoir, tells the unbelievable story of his return to the jungle 45 years after his first journey. He seeks to reconnect with the tribesmen he once lived with, men who both fascinated and haunted him. Directed by Laurie and David Shapiro, the film presents a powerful and unsettling portrait of a complex man – a daring adventurer wrestling with his past, and one of the most intriguing figures ever filmed.
