Synopsis

Mexico, December 1531. The Virgin Mary appears to Juan Diego, a poor Indigenous peasant, but he is initially met with disbelief. Following her request, Juan Diego carries Castilian roses in his cloak, or tilma, which miraculously bloom on a barren hill. He recounts his story to the Bishop, and upon meeting him, reveals the Virgin's image imprinted on the cloak. The image is remarkably lifelike. Centuries later, scientific analysis reveals astonishing details: the thirteen witnesses are visible in the Virgin’s eyes, and the stars on her cloak are aligned precisely as they were on the day of the miracle, December 12, 1531. No known painting technique created the image on Juan Diego's tilma; the colors remain vibrant, and the cloth itself is untouched by time. (Released 2010)
