Synopsis

Set in 1980s Poland during the socialist era, the story follows fifteen-year-old Renata, who struggles with typical teenage issues while also dealing with her parents' constant arguments and their habit of involving her in their conflicts. Seeking revenge, she increasingly gets into trouble, experimenting with alcohol and listening to Radio Free Europe, and making clumsy attempts to rebel against the political climate. When her situation becomes dire, she is rescued by her father, a member of the secret police, a rescue she experiences with a complex mix of admiration and disdain. Growing up amidst this confusing adult world, Renata learns to navigate life on her own. It's only after an unwanted romance and a first sexual experience with a stranger, following a series of emotional experiences, that she begins to understand her perpetually fighting parents.
