Synopsis

China holds a remarkable burial ground, comparable to Egypt's Valley of the Kings, filled with enormous pyramid tombs brimming with incredible treasures. In 221 BC, China’s first Emperor unified the country, initiating the construction of one of the world's largest mortuary complexes by draining the national treasury and employing thousands of workers. The Han dynasty that followed faced the difficult task of building even grander tombs to legitimize their rule without financial ruin. While no Han emperor's tomb has been opened, discoveries in the tombs of lesser nobles reveal astonishing details: complete underground palaces with kitchens and toilets, and at least one remarkably preserved corpse, leading some to believe Han tomb builders possessed knowledge of achieving immortality.
