Synopsis

Kenneth MacMillan's Romeo and Juliet premiered with The Royal Ballet in 1965, starring Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn, and has since become a highly popular signature piece for the Company worldwide. The ballet opens with lively, colorful scenes of townspeople, market vendors, and servants from the feuding Montague and Capulet families. The story then focuses on Romeo and Juliet's key moments: their ballroom encounter, balcony scene, wedding morning, and tragic final moments in the tomb.
