Synopsis

St. Petersburg, 1917. As World War I draws nearer, the city is gripped by hunger, worry, and anger. The Tsar is overthrown in February, sparking initial euphoria among many artists – a sense of revolution and newfound freedom. However, by October, the Bolsheviks have seized power. The film explores what prominent figures like Maxim Gorky and Kazimir Malevich – poets, thinkers, and avant-garde artists – were doing amidst this dramatic shift in power. The story unfolds with these five individuals appearing as animated cut-out figures, brought to life from the director's books. Using their own recorded voices, they navigate salons, committees, and even the chaos of street riots.
