Synopsis

In the 2014 adaptation of "Liao Zhai: Lian Suo," a scholar named Yang Ziwei encounters Lian Suo at a cemetery. Instead of a conventional encounter, they spend their nights writing poetry and painting. When Yang’s friend Xue Sheng discovers Yang is spending every night with someone, he and his companions visit Yang's home, frightening Lian Suo into hiding. Yang apologizes to Lian Suo. Later, she reveals she was being forced into concubinage by an evil ghost. Yang battles the ghost in her dreams, and with the help of a warrior named Wang, they defeat it. Afterward, Yang and Lian Suo are together daily. However, Lian Suo explains that her prolonged exposure to human life has made her capable of resurrection, but only if she and Yang consummate their relationship, which would severely harm him.
