Synopsis

The film relies almost entirely on incomplete works by José Val del Omar (1904-1982), a filmmaker from Granada. This project represents his final artistic statement, a series he called abstract documentaries, cinematographies, or elementals. These elementals are highly poetic takes on documentary filmmaking. Following his previous elemental films about water (Granada), fire (Castile), and earth (Galicia) – collectively known as his Elemental Triptych of Spain – Val del Omar intended this fourth film to be the culmination of his entire body of work. The film presents new images of Granada, contrasting the region's Arabic-Andalusian heritage with the modern tourist presence (moving between the Alhambra and Generalife gardens). It then transitions into a dynamic, increasingly abstract visual experience, exploring a timeless realm unbound by conventional notions of space and time.
