Synopsis

Since 1920, Hugo von Hofmannsthal's "Jedermann," or "The Play of the Rich Man's Death," has been performed at the Salzburg Festival before the Salzburg Cathedral. In 2013, Julian Crouch and Brian Mertes directed a new production. Their approach involves a ceremonial procession from the Festspielhaus to the Cathedral Square, using nature, the city, and the audience to tell the story of "Everyman"—his life and transformation. The goal is to depict a life rich with joy, engaging the audience throughout. Along his journey, Everyman meets various powerful theatrical figures. The production aims to captivate the audience with spectacle and humor, drawing them into Everyman's path and encouraging them to see it as relevant to their own lives during the two-hour performance.
