Synopsis

Ginga, a spirited country girl in ancient China, lives with her father far from the imperial city. She seizes a chance to become a concubine to the new Emperor, with the potential to become his primary wife and oversee the other consorts, persuading her father to allow her to go. Upon arrival, she encounters the other women vying for the same position, each with their own motivations. They must quickly learn literacy, national history, and court etiquette. Ginga’s often impulsive nature proves both problematic and beneficial as they uncover a plot by the former Emperor's primary wife – who is not the current Emperor’s mother – to overthrow him and incite a rebellion in the capital.
