Synopsis

Rasappan (Sathyaraj), a man seen as good for nothing, is deeply fond of his sister’s educated daughter, Meena (Meena). Their families arrange a marriage, but Meena refuses to marry someone without a job. Rasappan vows to find work. His uncle (Goundamani) suggests he run for MLA. He joins Paramasivan's political party, and Paramasivan (Manivannan) is impressed by his enthusiasm. However, villagers are unhappy with Paramasivan’s leadership and encourage Velusamy (Vijayakumar) to run for MLA instead. During the election, Rasappan campaigns for Velusamy, and he wins decisively. As MLA, Rasappan proves to be honest and helps his community, persuading them to invest in a new bank. The bank manager, a relative of Paramasivan’s, then defrauds Rasappan and the villagers, leading to Rasappan's arrest as part of Paramasivan’s scheme. In retaliation, the villagers destroy Rasappan’s home and take his possessions.
