Synopsis

Sir John Falstaff, a wealthy knight, believes Mistress Ford and Mistress Page are both romantically interested in him – drawn as much to his wealth as to his charm. He sets out to woo them both. However, the women see through his lecherous intentions and cleverly turn the tables, subjecting him to a series of embarrassing pranks, nighttime scares, and a particularly humiliating incident involving a laundry basket. A lively and character-driven comedy, *The Merry Wives of Windsor* is Shakespeare's only comedy set in England and a foundational work for modern English sitcoms. This production playfully explores the contrast between Elizabethan middle-class life and the late medieval period in which the play takes place.
