Synopsis

Cal, 20, returns to Bristol from France after his mother falls ill. He discovers his hometown struggling with economic hardship following the global crisis, marked by rising poverty, crime, and nightly riots. His homecoming is difficult; his mother rejects his openly gay identity, while his Auntie Jane, living in poverty, copes with welfare-funded alcohol and inappropriate advances towards him. While trying to navigate this challenging environment, Cal helps a young student, drawing him into conflict with a dangerous drug dealer. He must then race against time to reconcile with his mother and escape the city. It’s a powerful story of a family grappling with poverty, anger, and loss, yet still yearning for love, respect, and acceptance.
