Synopsis

Between 1978 and 1982, Glenn O'Brien hosted "TV Party," a one-hour public access television show in New York City. Co-hosted by Chris Stein of Blondie and directed by Amos Poe, the program pushed television into unconventional territory, described by O'Brien as "sub-realism." Walter Steding and his "Orchestra" provided music, and frequent guests included artists and musicians like The Clash, Nile Rodgers, Jean-Michel Basquiat, David Byrne, and Arto Lindsay. The show was a unique blend of cocktail party and political gathering. Using 80 hours of deteriorating videotape, the documentary revisits the show's key figures to discover their recollections of the era and the program’s impact on their lives, alongside clips from the original broadcasts. This collection forms the documentary "TV Party."
