Synopsis

Georg Johannesen (1931-2005), a powerful intellectual, poet, essayist, and novelist, died in Egypt in 2005. He left behind numerous collections of poetry, non-fiction books, and novels that were both provocative and insightful. While the content of his writings is significant, he was also unafraid to challenge form itself, particularly exposing how language obscures and distorts reality. He sought to blur and illuminate the distinction between poetry and life. As a novelist, Johannesen also resisted prevailing norms, especially those of post-war social democracy. His inspirations drew from both the Bible and Bertolt Brecht. Johannesen believed his readers fell into two categories: those who agreed with him and those who simply didn't understand him. This documentary film offers a closer look at Georg Johannesen.
