Synopsis

In 1963, filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini journeys to Palestine with a newsreel photographer and a Catholic priest to scout locations for his film *The Gospel According to Matthew*. Edited by the film's producer for potential investors, *Seeking Locations in Palestine* features Pasolini’s personal commentary as the sole audio. As they travel through Palestinian villages, Pasolini shares his unique thoughts on Christ's teachings while expressing growing disillusionment with the people and the land. He finds Israel too modern and the Palestinians too impoverished, questioning whether the message of Jesus could resonate in such a place. *The Gospel According to Matthew* was eventually filmed in Southern Italy. Forty years later, Mel Gibson would utilize some of the same locations for *The Passion of the Christ*.
