Synopsis

ERENDIRA IKIKUNARI is a visually stunning action film based on the 16th-century legend of Erendira, a young Purepecha woman who became a symbol of courage during the Spanish conquest of Mexico. Taking advantage of divisions among the native people, the Spanish conquerors exploit the region's conflicts. Erendira, a young woman about to marry, defies societal norms that forbid women from fighting and refuses to let her land be destroyed. She learns to ride a horse and steal from the Spanish, earning the respect of her people. Throughout her journey, she embodies strength and resistance for her culture. The film was shot entirely in the original Purepecha language.
