Synopsis

The film follows the true story of the B-24 'Liberator' bomber, 'Shady Lady,' which departed Darwin, Australia, on August 13, 1943, for what was then the longest bombing mission ever undertaken. Led by 'Doug' Craig, 'Shady Lady' and eleven other planes aimed to strike Japanese oil refineries at Balikpapan, Borneo – a daring move deep behind enemy lines. The flight faced treacherous tropical storms, severe turbulence, heavy anti-aircraft fire, and pursuit from Japanese fighters. After sixteen hours and thirty-five minutes, 'Shady Lady' ran out of fuel and crash-landed in a remote Australian salt pan. With help from local Aboriginal people and a large rescue effort, the aircraft surprisingly flew again.
