Synopsis

Following his service as an Israeli soldier in the 1973 war and disillusioned by Israel's intertwining of religion and politics, a filmmaker moves to America, viewing it as a haven due to its separation of church and state. Thirty-five years later, concerned by the increasing influence of religion in the 2008 U.S. presidential race, he embarks on a road trip to understand this trend. Instead of focusing on the candidates themselves, the filmmaker connects with religious activists supporting both Democratic and Republican nominees. *Jesus Politics* documents the efforts of Baptist activists for Obama, Catholics and evangelicals backing McCain, Christian conservatives supporting Huckabee, and the political campaigns of evangelical organizations like Christians United for Israel, from the Iowa Caucus through Super Tuesday in Oklahoma.
