Synopsis

The 1973 Grand Divertissement at Versailles became a significant event, particularly in fashion. It brought together five leading French designers – Givenchy, Dior, Ungaro, Yves Saint Laurent, and Pierre Cardin – with five prominent American designers: Halston, Oscar de la Renta, Anne Klein, Stephen Burrows, and Bill Blass. This event impacted fashion, race relations, business, and the fashion industry itself. African American models Bethann Hardison, Pat Cleveland, Alva Chinn, Billie Blair, Norma Jean Darden, Barbara Jackson, Jennifer Brice, Romana Saunders, and Amina Warsuma traveled to Paris with little awareness of the impact they would have. Their presence helped to change the direction of fashion and marked a major turning point. Versailles '73: American Runway Revolution tells this story.
