After his release from prison, Peter quickly finds himself in debt while pursuing a relationship with Ana, a prostitute, and her pimp, Gringo. To repay his debts, Peter suggests Ana and Gringo accompany him to meet his father. They agree, planning to con the elderly man out of money by fabricating a story about Ana's impending marriage to Peter (with Gringo as best man). During their journey, the three develop a bond and become involved in the deception. However, Peter’s father immediately sees through the scheme and instead takes the bride. Gringo is pleased, but Peter is annoyed. The father’s unexpected death before the marriage license prevents Ana and Gringo from inheriting anything. With their dreams of wealth gone, the remaining connection between Ana and Peter, and the friendship that formed between all three, becomes clear. Ultimately, Gringo sacrifices himself for their happiness.
