Synopsis

Gabriel Ferrater, known as Biel to his friends, came of age during a period of intense upheaval in Spanish history. Soon after his birth, a coup occurred; before he was ten, the king abdicated and Spain became a Republic. As he approached adolescence, his father was imprisoned for supporting an independent Catalan republic, and within two years, a devastating civil war erupted. Biel remained largely shielded from the realities of these events during his childhood, continuing to learn to read and write at home. However, the escalating political and social turmoil transforms him into a witness to unimaginable horrors. The film follows a teenage boy navigating the most violent years in Spain's history, experiences that shape a profound disillusionment in Gabriel Ferrater and his generation regarding humanity itself.
