Synopsis

In an alternate history, aliens arrived in Dejima, Nagasaki, alongside the first Westerners. Rumors of this are now spreading in Edo, and gaining credence. With war on the horizon, the Bakufu's Tenmonkata Office is the foremost authority on the cosmos, and Kageyasu is tasked with infiltrating it. Having experience with foreign cultures from a past expedition, Kageyasu has worked as a spy for the Edo shogunate. He travels to Kyushu and discovers that Nagasaki has been transformed into a bizarre, futuristic city. There, he meets a woman named Taki in Dejima, and together they begin to unravel the mystery surrounding Philipp Franz von Siebold, the Westerner who brought such advanced technology. Is he an alien? What is real, and what is not? Kageyasu becomes entangled in a space opera, both personal and global, set against a reimagined Dejima with elements of comedy.
