The powerful Murohachi Alliance, which had united Japan's yakuza under Kyoto, falls apart, sparking a brutal fight for control across the country. In Owari, Nobuhide Oriki (Tokuma Nishioka) leads the Oriki-gumi in an effort to unite the region. His eldest son and second-in-command, Nobunaga Oriki (Hitoshi Ozawa), favors aggressive expansion, taking territory by any means necessary. Elsewhere, Shingen Takebe (Shun Sugata) of Kai fights a war in Shinshu against Kenshin Uemura (Ryuji Harada) of Echigo. In Aki, Motonari Mōriya (Shinichi Chiba) is expanding his family's influence throughout the Chugoku region. Meanwhile, Yoshimoto Imanishi (Naoya Makoto) of Suruga and his Imanishi-gumi, determined to destroy the Murohachi Alliance, invade Owari. Acting on orders, Ieyasu Tokusawa (Yasukaze Motomiya) clashes with the Oriki-gumi, plunging the underworld into a new era of warfare.
