It’s surprising to see Jean Claude Van Damme deliver believable performances; I observed him giving a respectable showing in the unfortunately brief comedy series, Jean-Claude Van Johnson. Considering he's demonstrated an ability beyond being just "another cookie cutter action star," it's puzzling why they can’t create a worthwhile script for him. Instead, what we consistently receive appears to be a rehash of older martial arts and action movies from the 20th century that he was in, but inferior this time around. Kill Em All 2 serves as an example; essentially, it's designed to highlight Van Damme’s martial arts abilities—abilities which are undeniably impressive, particularly considering his age, being in his sixties. However, all the other elements crucial for a good film, like a solid script with developed characters and background stories, are largely missing. Hollywood, you really should be able to come up with something better than this for Van Damme. Ultimately, it's a movie that functions primarily as an exhibition of Van Damme’s martial arts skills, lacking most of what constitutes a good action film.
