Beginning as an unremarkable, impoverished, and unwell man, Arthur endured a succession of unfortunate incidents that steadily drove him toward a breaking point. Feeling overlooked and rejected by everyone, struggling with illness and isolation, and abandoned by society, Arthur's behavior grew increasingly aggressive until he finally snapped. Far beyond just another superhero film, *Joker* utilizes familiar figures to encourage consideration of those who are disregarded—at least, until they become a Joker.
