This film has a Dreamworks quality rather than Pixar’s usual style. It was enjoyable enough, however, I found it lacked any real sense of scope when compared to their other films; there aren’t many characters that stand out or distinctive places to create the feeling of an epic journey (the majority of the story unfolds in the glade or at the university, both fairly straightforward settings). The main plot itself is just kind of… underwhelming. I think a lot more depth could have been given to the different personalities and the narrative could have extended beyond simply “saving the glade.” It’s fine as something to watch while eating popcorn, but it needed more substance to leave a lasting impression.
