The premise of "Home Alone" seems incredibly slight, essentially depicting what you’d naturally imagine would happen if a young child were inadvertently left at their house. The kid indulges in unhealthy snacks and watches low-quality television for an entire day. Recognizing that this alone wouldn't fill out the narrative, screenwriter John Hughes brings in two burglars who are robbing vacant homes. Naturally, they choose Kevin’s (Macaulay Culkin) residence, but he turns out to be far more clever than they could have possibly guessed. What unfolds then is a series of wonderfully silly and entertaining physical comedy moments, making it an ideal holiday film—though it's amusing at any point during the year.
