A street-smart white bouncer and a cultured black pianist embark on a journey through the Deep South in 1962. Viggo Mortensen portrays a rough-around-the-edges Italian man who finds himself employed to chauffeur an elegant African-American concert pianist, played by Mahershala Ali, across the Midwest and into the Deep South during 1962. Linda Cardellini appears as his wife. "Green Book," released in 2018, draws from a true account and was crafted by the son of Tony Lip, portrayed by Mortensen. As with other noteworthy dramas, it immediately grabs your attention, and the road trip format delivers a series of engaging and revealing moments, sometimes even funny ones. Although some have criticized the film for reverse racism, it seems fairly presented, depicting both impoverished, unsophisticated black people and their white counterparts. The underlying point is to form opinions based on who someone is as an individual rather than relying on prejudiced assumptions.
