It's a sci-fi fantasy film from the Wachowskis, who directed 'The Matrix.' This feels like their worst work to date, though it’s not entirely terrible. The movie suffers in several respects, notably its absence of truly impressive fight or war sequences. I realize this is just the first installment and there may be a sequel, possibly even a trilogy, but the narrative felt very underwhelming for an introductory film. The premise echoes 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,' with a rather slender core idea driving the entire story. It’s essentially about a space journey for a designated individual, traveling from planet to planet in search of answers and safety. Jupiter Jones, portrayed by Mila Kunis, along with Caine Wise (Channing Tatum), embarks on a perilous quest when their lives are jeopardized. Uncovering those responsible and other truths brings the story to a close after just over two hours. The acting was passable, though I question some of the casting choices. The cast largely consists of up-and-coming performers, with Sean Bean being a notable exception. They were carrying a heavy burden in a high-budget production, and they managed it adequately. However, the film would have benefited from including at least one more established actor. While the visuals are decent, the lack of well-executed action scenes and stunts ultimately holds the movie back. 6½/10
