It’s surprising how disappointing this movie turned out to be, especially considering it features magical beings. To put it plainly, *‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’* didn’t live up to expectations. I wasn't engaged by the plot or the people in it at any point during its roughly 130 minutes. The movie seems to be trying to juggle several different storylines simultaneously—a Pokemon-esque adventure, a character reminiscent of Voldemort in his early days, and an unexpectedly somber narrative dealing with child abuse. Remarkably, none of these individual threads are poorly executed, so I’m willing to let _Fantastic Beasts_ slide. I really appreciated how well it connected to the broader Harry Potter uni…
