A young woman named "Ember" and her grandfather travel to a large urban area where all residents are portrayed as representations of the four elements. Predictably, fire isn’t widely embraced, but they decide to start a business selling smoked, toasted, burnt, and fiery-red goods. The shop is located in an older structure, and when a pipe bursts, introducing "Wade," the local building inspector representing water, she learns that their operation lacks proper authorization and he intends to report them. What follows is, unfortunately, a fairly predictable sequence of events as she tries to find him and prevent both him and official agencies from shutting down her family’s fire-based business. The animation quality is excellent and full of personality—and the narrative certainly seemed promising—but it swiftly devolves into something of a sentimental romance. It would have been more enjoyable to explore the tensions or possible harmony that could arise when air, earth, water, and fire are combined; however, the focus and conversations primarily revolve around "Ember" and "Wade," and I confess my interest waned. The visuals are bright and lively, there's some amusing action with impressive displays of fireworks, and it’s worth seeing, but it would be just as enjoyable on TV and doesn't quite meet the expectations, I regret to say.
