I have reservations about how things were handled in the film itself. It's a decent motion picture, even though the story deals with some pretty depressing subject matter. It isn’t usually the kind of thing I would pick out myself, but my wife wanted to see it and it had gotten mostly positive feedback, so I decided to add it to my movie library. The film’s adherence to historical facts has been brought into question. To be honest, I don't recall any specifics about what happened during that unfortunate period in Middle Eastern history, so I'm not really qualified to say whether it is accurate or not. As far as I can tell, the main storyline seems to align with reality, and for my purposes, that’s sufficient. I suspect that if they had strived for absolute historical precision, the movie would have become a dull documentary rather than an entertaining drama. It was somewhat unexpected how humorous it became at times. The conversations among the filmmakers as they were creating their elaborate ruse were often genuinely funny. Naturally, there were also very sad moments, such as when the Iranians seized the embassy and the chaotic behavior in the marketplace. Some scenes felt a little absurd, though. Why did the Iranian security forces need to smash down their own doors at the airport instead of simply contacting air traffic control to prevent the plane from taking off? And the car chase after the plane was just silly. The aircraft would have easily outpaced those cars long before they could catch up. Also, the fact that the pursuing vehicles had to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting the runway barrier meant the plane nearly collided with it during its standard takeoff procedure – which is simply unrealistic. Overall, I think it’s a good movie, even if it isn't my preferred genre and the subject matter—the takeover by Iranian radicals—is undeniably tragic.
