The film didn’t reach its full potential in terms of darkness or emotional impact, and maybe it should have. Nevertheless, ‘Eight Below’ – a reimagining of the 1983 movie ‘Antarctica’ – manages to be a reasonably good survival story. The actors helped me connect with the film more, especially Paul Walker in the central part; he seemed to genuinely share a connection with the dogs, which is essential for the story. While it primarily focuses on Walker's performance, Bruce Greenwood, Jason Biggs and Moon Bloodgood all contribute positively through their characters. The dogs are also excellent and do some impressive work onscreen, much of which feels authentic. There are definitely sad moments, but I ultimately wished the movie had explored the storyline in greater depth than it did; however, there are still good reasons to give it a view.
