For my mother’s seventy-fifth birthday, I thought I'd watch the initial installment in the 'Divergent' films because I enjoy Kate Winslet and Ashley Judd, and Neil Burger’s previous film, 'Limitless,' seemed interesting and acceptable for a contemporary science fiction movie. However, the performances from those cast as the central characters were really bad, along with the visual effects; the storyline felt flimsy and was completely foreseeable, and I just wanted it to be over. It was certainly an instance where Burger went too far. Naturally, Hollywood churns out numerous sequels for films like this one, while more worthwhile and inventive projects are overlooked.
