"Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" provides an abundance of enjoyment from beginning to end, and the beautiful settings are visually stunning; the French Riviera bathed in sunlight appears incredibly appealing. The comedy feels authentic, and Michael Caine seems to be having a wonderful time portraying Doctor Emil Schaffhausen – he clearly relishes the opportunity to tease Steve Martin, who is playing someone with mobility issues, notably during a moment where he repeatedly strikes his ankles with a cane. It’s possible revealing early on that this film centers on con artists could have been risky. Being informed upfront does put you in a state of readiness and anticipation throughout the plot's developments, though it doesn't detract from the experience at all. The cleverness involved in crafting the movie alongside the ultimate resolution is wholly unexpected, resulting in what can only be called a delightful and gratifying form of entertainment that’s been skillfully made.
