It’s just hard not to measure this against what came before. The actors portraying Johnny and Baby simply don't deliver the same impact; he isn’t convincing as an actor, and she doesn’t come across as a dancer. The lip-syncing was so obvious that it became distracting. There’s a scene returning to the staff quarters that gave the impression the dancers were about to engage in something like a group sexual encounter. I don't usually focus on someone's physical appearance, but this version of Baby seemed too heavy for a dancer—it was quite apparent. Prattes also comes across as awkward and seems unsure of himself; he doesn’t possess the effortless charm and fluidity that Swayze brought to the role, and his performance felt stiff. I wasn't invested in the parents’ relationship problems at all. The film should have been centered on Johnny and Baby’s romance. It’s baffling why they completely altered the final dance sequence—it was such a memorable part of the original. To make matters worse, the ending reveals that Johnny and Baby don’t actually end up together. I would have preferred to have that left open-ended, as it was in the first film. *Dirty Dancing* didn't require a remake. This is definitely not something I plan on rewatching.
