Synopsis

The film follows Edna Gladney, who marries Texan Sam Gladney and suffers a profound loss when their young son dies. Witnessing the hardships of orphaned and abandoned children within the legal system, Edna dedicates herself to helping them. She establishes a home for these vulnerable kids, working to find them loving families. Her efforts are met with opposition from conservative community members who disapprove of children born outside of marriage. Undeterred, Edna fights for change by lobbying the Texas legislature to eliminate stigma surrounding illegitimacy in birth records and ensure every child has a chance at a home.
